For a longer visit, Japan's fixed options include 30-day plans. The current Lite, Essential and Plus options run for 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 or 15 days; there is no selectable 30-day Unlimited or Premium option on this product. Do not assume the name Unlimited means unlimited full-speed data.

Travel eSIM or your US carrier's roaming?

Before departure: check your exact US phone

1. eSIM support: check your exact model and regional version, not just the iPhone, Samsung or Pixel brand name.
2. Carrier-unlocked status: confirm this with your US carrier before buying a third-party travel eSIM. Unlock eligibility and timing depend on that carrier.
3. Two-line support: if you want the US line and Japan eSIM available together, confirm that your device supports the combination you need.
4. Home-line charges: decide whether to keep the US line enabled for calls or texts, and confirm roaming and Wi-Fi calling terms with your carrier.
5. Account access: prepare a suitable way to access important accounts if they require verification. Do not assume every text will arrive abroad or be free.

The Japan travel data purchase does not replace your US phone-number service. Keep that distinction clear when planning contact with family, banks or work.

Make your data useful across Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka

Tokyo arrival: save your accommodation address, booking confirmation and airport transfer instructions before flying. Once your phone connects, mobile data can help you check directions and message your host. Keep the same information offline in case you need more time to connect.

Fixed data suits a predictable total. A 5GB plan valid for 30 days does not refresh each morning, and fixed plans end when the allowance is used or validity expires.

Daily tiers suit a routine that needs data each day. Essential and Plus have different daily high-speed allowances, followed by their reduced-speed conditions. Large uploads, video streaming and laptop backups can consume the daily high-speed allowance quickly.

Check your phone's own recent usage before travelling. Decide which activities will use mobile data and which can wait for trusted Wi-Fi. A longer holiday does not automatically require the largest fixed plan, and a short trip with heavy video use can still need more data.

Install your Japan eSIM before departure

1. Choose the allowance and duration you need on the Japan product page.
2. Open the purchased plan's QR-code email over stable Wi-Fi. Display the code on another screen if scanning.
3. Find Add eSIM in your phone's cellular, mobile-data or SIM settings. Menu names vary by device.
4. Follow the delivery instructions and label the line AloOui or Japan.
5. Keep the profile installed. Do not delete it between Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

The Japan product states that installation alone does not start validity. Validity starts on activation when the eSIM connects to a supported network in Japan. If already within Japanese coverage, enabling the line and connecting can activate it.

Arrival setup at Narita, Haneda or Kansai

1. When ready in Japan, enable the AloOui line and select it for mobile data.
2. Turn on data roaming for that travel line as instructed.

Keep US calls and texts separate from travel data

If you leave your US line enabled, its calls and texts remain subject to your US carrier's availability and charging rules. Turning off data roaming is not the same as turning off every chargeable service.

Use genuine messaging apps over AloOui mobile data where their features are available. For native calls, SMS verification or Wi-Fi calling on your US number, follow your carrier's instructions and terms. If you disable the US line, do not expect it to receive messages while disabled.

Hotspot sharing and practical limits

The Japan product lists hotspot sharing where network service is available, subject to the plan terms and device support. Shared use draws from the same allowance, and reduced speeds also affect the hotspot connection.

For a data-heavy trip, Plus offers more daily high-speed data than Essential under the product's stated terms. Switch laptop updates and cloud backups to Wi-Fi where practical. For companions travelling separately, their own suitable plans avoid dependence on staying within one phone's hotspot range.

If the eSIM is installed but there is no internet

1. Confirm you are in Japan and that your allowance and validity have not ended.
2. Check that AloOui is enabled, selected for mobile data and has the required data-roaming setting on.
3. If an APN is needed, the Japan product lists data.esim. Follow the delivery instructions for the other fields.
4. Toggle airplane mode or restart, and try a location with better reception. Try 4G/LTE if 5G is unstable.
5. Use automatic network selection first. For manual selection, follow the supported-partner details in the plan instructions.
6. Keep the eSIM installed and contact the AloOui Help Center with your order number, phone model, location and error details.

Keep your QR code and activation details private. Do not repeatedly rescan or delete the profile as a first troubleshooting step.
