USA, Canada and Mexico eSIM Guide: Data for a Multi-Country Trip
How do you plan mobile data for a trip through the USA, Canada and Mexico?
Choose coverage for every country and enough validity for the journey from your first supported connection to your final travel day. AloOui North America eSIM starts at $6.60 USD for 1GB total over 7 days across the USA, Canada and Mexico. One regional purchase can simplify a multi-country route, but the smallest package is suitable only when its total allowance and duration fit your trip.
This guide focuses on organizing a multi-country journey, not tournament fixtures or stadium access. For the broader package comparison, see the North America eSIM buying guide; confirm the exact current package and setup instructions on the product page before purchasing.
Write down the route before choosing the package
- List every stop in order. Include arrival days, overnight transits, border crossings and the final journey home.
- Separate country coverage from local reception. North America lists the USA, Canada and Mexico. That does not establish continuous reception along every highway, trail, island or ferry route.
- Count the whole service period. A seven-day package is not seven days in each country. Include travel days when you will need mobile data.
- Estimate shared usage. Maps, messages, uploads and a laptop hotspot all draw from the selected allowance. Monitor actual use rather than relying on a universal daily estimate.
Choose regional or separate country coverage
| Your itinerary | What to compare | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Staying in one country | The relevant USA, Canada or Mexico product | Its exact coverage, allowance, validity and current price. |
| Visiting two or three of these countries | North America eSIM against suitable separate purchases | One shared service period and allowance versus separate country allowances and setup. |
| Adding another country or island destination | A product explicitly listing that extra destination | North America covers the USA, Canada and Mexico only. Do not infer additional coverage from geography or political association. |
A regional purchase is convenient, but it is not automatically the cheapest for every route. Compare the total cost and benefits for your actual travel days. Separate country packages are separate purchases, not extra coverage included with North America.
Destination guides for the stops on your route
Canada: Read the Canada eSIM guide for Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and beyond when comparing a country-only purchase with the regional option.
Mexico: Use the Mexico travel eSIM guide to explore a separate country plan if Mexico is your main destination.
Leaving from the USA: Follow the US roaming and travel-line checklist and compare your account benefits with the AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile roaming comparison. Your US number and the travel-data allowance remain separate services.
Adding Central America or a Caribbean stop?
These are separate destination guides, not extra coverage included with the North America package. Check the actual selected plan for each additional stop.
For Central America, compare the Costa Rica eSIM options, Panama eSIM options or Belize eSIM options for the countries you will actually visit.
For island stays, start with the Bahamas buying guide, Dominican Republic guide or Cuba internet guide. For several islands, use the Caribbean island-by-island guide.
Continuing by ship? Use the Caribbean cruise port guide to plan land-based data at your stops. Port coverage does not include the ship's cellular network or establish service at sea.
Match the allowance to the journey
For light use with accommodation Wi-Fi, compare the 1GB total, 7-day option at $6.60. A 5GB total, 30-day option at $25.22 offers a larger shared pool and longer validity, not 5GB each day.
For balanced daily use, compare Essential for 7 days at $63.93: 1GB/day high-speed, then up to 1.25 Mbps for the rest of that day. For more uploads or supported hotspot use, Plus for 7 days at $127.87 provides 2GB/day high-speed, then up to 2 Mbps. These daily allowances refresh daily, not at border crossings.
Premium is a separate option for heavier or uneven use: 30GB/5 days, 60GB/10 days or 90GB/15 days of whole-plan high-speed data, then up to 2 Mbps until expiry, without a daily reset. Compare its current selectable options rather than treating Premium as another name for Plus. Higher allowances do not guarantee stronger reception.

Installation and the start of validity are different
- Check your exact device model and regional version support eSIM and the phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Install the emailed QR code over stable Wi-Fi using the order's instructions. Keep the QR private.
- Enable the AloOui line and select it for mobile data when ready in a covered destination. Follow the purchased package's roaming and APN instructions.
- Turn off home-SIM data roaming and prevent unwanted automatic data switching where available. Check your home carrier's separate call and SMS charges if retaining that line.
Validity starts when the eSIM connects to a supported network in a covered destination, not simply when you buy or install it. If you are already in the USA, Canada or Mexico, connecting the North America line can start validity before departure. Turning off an active line does not pause its purchased duration.
At each border: check service, not a new allowance
The same North America package continues across its covered countries. It does not restart when you leave the USA for Canada or continue to Mexico. A fixed allowance remains one total pool; daily tiers retain their daily rules; Premium retains its whole-plan pool and expiry.
After arrival, check that AloOui is still selected for mobile data and allow the phone to find a supported network. Start with automatic network selection. If you need to select manually, use only partners supported by your purchased option in the current country. Do not assume every network named for the product is available to every variant.
If data does not work, check allowance, validity and purchased roaming/APN instructions, then toggle airplane mode briefly or restart. Keep the profile installed. Do not delete, transfer or rescan it on the assumption that QR reuse is supported.
Keep travel-day essentials available offline
Before leaving Wi-Fi, download maps, accommodation addresses, transport details and your group's meeting point. Use the transport or event provider's supported offline ticket method where offered; do not assume screenshots are accepted.
Mountain roads, national parks, rural highways, remote coastal areas and crowded venues can have limited reception. An eSIM is not satellite or ship internet. Plan appropriate backup communications for remote travel and keep large uploads from consuming data needed for directions or bookings.
Calls, work and laptop sharing
North America eSIM is data-only: no phone number, ordinary calls or SMS. Internet calling and messaging require working data. Keeping your home number active does not make its roaming free.
Hotspot sharing uses the same allowance where supported by the device, network and selected-plan terms. Compare Plus or Premium for clearly heavier use, but keep suitable backup Wi-Fi for essential meetings. Reduced-speed continuation is not a guarantee that every video call or upload will work well.
Multi-country travel FAQs
Do I need three eSIMs for the USA, Canada and Mexico?
Not necessarily. North America lists all three countries on one product. Compare that shared package against separate country purchases for your actual route and usage.
Does a seven-day package give me seven days in each country?
No. It provides one purchased service period across the covered destinations, starting on the first supported destination-network connection.
Will a border crossing refresh my data?
No. It does not create a new fixed or Premium pool. Daily tiers refresh according to their daily terms, not borders.
Can I install while still at home?
Install over stable Wi-Fi following the order's instructions. If home is already a covered country, connecting the line can start validity there.
Does switching off the line save remaining days?
No. Switching off a running line does not pause the purchased validity period.
Are calls and SMS included?
No. North America is data-only. Internet-based services use data; your home line's calls and SMS are subject to its own carrier terms.
What if my eSIM stops working after crossing a border?
Check location, line selection, remaining allowance, validity and purchased network settings. Restart or toggle airplane mode. Keep the profile installed and contact AloOui's support through the Help Center with your order, device and error details privately.
Also visiting the UK?
For a separate UK stay, compare the UK eSIM guide with a local number, calls and SMS. It is a separate purchase with selected allowances, not coverage included in North America.
