Spotify Downloads Not Working Abroad? Check These Before Reinstalling

What should you check if Spotify downloads stop working abroad?
Check the actual download, account eligibility and Spotify's requirement to go online at least once every 30 days before reinstalling the app. Spotify says downloaded music and podcasts must be downloaded again after a reinstall. That can turn a small playback investigation into a large transfer when you are away from reliable Wi-Fi.
Spotify guidance reviewed 28 October 2026. This guide covers the app's offline-download checks, not a test of playback or a destination plan-price comparison.
1. Check whether the content is eligible for download
Spotify's offline-listening guide says Premium supports downloads of albums, playlists and podcasts. Its free version supports podcast downloads, not music downloads. The podcast guide also notes that some shows may need Premium.
Confirm the account and service you are using before assuming that buying mobile data will enable a download button. A travel eSIM supplies mobile service; it does not include or upgrade a Spotify subscription.
A playlist saved in your library is not proof that its files are downloaded to the phone you are taking. Use Spotify's supported download feature and check the completed state on that actual device.
2. Remember the 30-day online requirement
Spotify says you need to go online at least once every 30 days to keep downloads. Do not treat the offline library as a permanent archive that never needs another connection.
Before a long trip or a period without reliable internet, open the app on a suitable connection and check the intended content. During longer travel, plan opportunities to reconnect within the service's requirement.
This requirement does not establish that every missing track was lost for that reason. If you reconnected but playback still fails, continue with the actual download, account and storage checks rather than repeatedly purchasing data.
3. Check storage and device limits
The offline guide lists downloads of up to 10,000 tracks on each of up to five devices. Its troubleshooting asks users to check both available storage and whether the device limit has been reached.
Spotify recommends at least 1GB of free device memory in its storage information. That recommendation is not a promise that your entire chosen library will fit into 1GB. File quantity and quality still matter.
Device storage, mobile-data allowance and subscription eligibility are separate checks. More eSIM data does not create room on a full phone or remove the service's device limit.
4. Test the intended listening offline before departure
Complete permitted downloads on a stable connection, then test the actual content using Spotify's supported Offline Mode. Its offline guide says downloads play automatically when internet is lost, but Offline Mode is also available for deliberate offline listening.
Test more than one older favourite. Include the new playlist or episode you actually want for the flight or train journey. Read any app message rather than assuming every item with a familiar title is stored locally.
If you are investigating an online connection problem, remember that an enabled Offline Mode is a separate setting. Spotify's offline-connection troubleshooting includes checking it. Follow the controls for your app version rather than copying a desktop menu into the phone app.
5. Make mobile downloads a deliberate choice
Spotify's internet and data-usage guide recommends turning Downloads over cellular off when you want downloads restricted to Wi-Fi. It places the control under Data-saving and offline in the app's settings.
For Data Saver, Spotify documents profile picture, Settings and privacy, Data-saving and offline, then Data saver. It reduces audio quality and images to reduce usage; it does not make every online task offline.
The same guide recommends checking media quality and Autoplay. Higher audio quality uses more data, and Autoplay can continue after the content you selected. For video podcasts, review the supported Audio-only streaming option when you want to reduce video traffic.
There is no single data-per-hour figure that describes every quality setting, download and video session. Use the actual app choices and the phone data-monitoring guide for planning.
6. Do not make reinstalling the first travel fix
Spotify's troubleshooting includes checking the connection, free storage and device limit, and restarting the app. It also lists reinstalling, but explicitly warns that downloaded music and podcasts need downloading again afterwards.
Before taking that step, consider where you can complete the necessary downloads and how much mobile traffic they may use. Keep enough allowance for maps, bookings and messages rather than starting an unplanned library download just before leaving a connection.
Use Spotify support for an unresolved app or account problem. Do not remove your installed travel eSIM to try to fix Spotify's saved files.
Separate Spotify from the mobile connection
Test a small webpage on the intended data line. If it loads but Spotify does not, check the app's Offline Mode, account, download state and service guidance. If browsing also fails, review coverage, selected line, remaining allowance, validity and the purchased roaming/APN instructions.
AloOui provides customer support connectivity support. Keep the profile installed during troubleshooting and share order details privately, not passwords, verification codes or QR credentials.
For the broader buying decision, use the existing Amsterdam music-data guide. For in-car connection setup, use the wireless CarPlay guide. Neither a car display nor a saved playlist name proves every track is available offline.
Choose travel data for what still needs internet
Include intended streaming, new downloads, maps, bookings and messages. Compare fixed data for a measured total workload, Essential for balanced daily activity where available, or Plus for clearly heavier connected use. Review the selected current price, allowance and validity.
Explore travel data for your route
More allowance does not guarantee continuous reception or change Spotify's subscription and download rules. Prepare supported offline listening for journeys where the connection may vary.
Which Europe eSIM includes a phone number?
UK & EU Prepaid 20GB/30 Days includes a UK mobile number, 20GB total data, 50 minutes and 50 SMS across 30 listed destinations. Consider it for ordinary calls and messages alongside mobile data, not as a music-subscription upgrade.
One eSIM. 30 European destinations. One UK number for calls and SMS. Included calls/SMS are from listed destinations to numbers in listed destinations; premium-rate and other destinations are excluded.
Check the package, current price and destination list · Read the UK-number guide
No contract or automatic renewal. Six-month number validity is separate from the 30-day package. Verification-message acceptance and delivery are not guaranteed.
Prepare the travel line before you need it
Confirm exact regional eSIM support and carrier unlocking, then install on stable Wi-Fi using your purchase instructions. Travel validity starts on connection to a supported network in an included destination, not purchase or installation alone. A covered home or transit connection can start it; switching off does not pause it. Review home-line roaming and automatic data switching separately.
