Costa Rica eSIM

Costa Rica eSIM for beach stays and road trips

Keep your San José hotel address handy, message your La Fortuna host or check a Tamarindo booking with an AloOui Costa Rica eSIM. For heavier data use, we recommend Unlimited Plus; Unlimited Essential is the balanced everyday option, and fixed data suits lighter use between Wi-Fi connections.

Your QR code is delivered by email after purchase. Delivery and installation are separate from the purchased plan's validity start.

Choose by trip length and data use

• Heavier daily use: choose Unlimited Plus for its larger daily high-speed allowance. Match the selected duration to your stay and check hotspot support if you plan to share data.
• Balanced everyday use: compare Unlimited Essential for maps, messages and bookings, allowing for your own expected usage.
• Lighter use: compare fixed-data plans. Choose enough total data for your trip, not just enough days.

Select your exact option above for its current price, allowance and validity. Prices may change. Always check the product page for the latest prices before purchasing.

• Fixed data: 1GB for 7 days; 2GB for 15 days; 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 50GB or 100GB for 30 days. Each is a total allowance for the whole plan, not per day.
• Validity: A plan's validity starts when the eSIM connects to a supported network in Costa Rica, not when it is installed. Follow the instructions supplied with your order for any deadline to begin using the eSIM.
• Delivery and ID: QR code by email after purchase. No ID verification is required for the AloOui purchase.
• Hotspot: Allowed where your device and network support it. Shared data uses the same allowance.
• Setup: Requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked device. Follow the APN, credential and data-roaming instructions supplied with your purchased plan.

Daily high-speed allowances refresh each day. Unlimited does not mean unrestricted high-speed data. Actual speeds depend on available connectivity. Fixed plans end when their allowance or validity runs out, whichever comes first, without reduced-speed continuation.

Need help choosing?

Use Shop with AI on the AloOui website or app to compare plans. Tell it your trip length, expected data use and whether you need hotspot sharing. For heavier daily use, ask about Unlimited Plus; for balanced use, compare Unlimited Essential. Check the selected plan's coverage, allowance and current price before purchasing.

Costa Rica networks and coverage

Connect through ICE and Liberty. Available technology and speeds depend on your device, purchased plan, supported network, terrain and local conditions. This product covers Costa Rica only, not Panama, Nicaragua or other countries.

Rainforest routes, surf towns and national parks

Save offline maps, lodge confirmations and guide contacts before leaving reliable coverage. Reception can vary on Monteverde mountain roads, around the Osa Peninsula, along remote beach routes and inside parks. Do not assume uninterrupted service during Tortuguero boat transfers or at a particular eco-lodge. Check with support before purchase if connectivity at a specific location is essential. Satellite and maritime networks are not included.

Hotspot and keeping your existing number

Hotspot sharing is available where supported by your device and network, using the same total or daily allowance. Sharing support does not guarantee video-call or remote-work performance. This eSIM does not include a Costa Rican number, native calls or SMS. Internet-based messaging and calling depend on app availability and connectivity.

You can keep your home SIM for calls or SMS if your device supports the arrangement. Check its roaming charges, turn off its data roaming and avoid automatic data switching.

Installation and when validity starts

You need an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked device. Check your exact model and regional version before purchase. Install the emailed QR code over stable Wi-Fi using Add eSIM in your cellular or SIM settings. Restart your phone after downloading the eSIM and retain the profile unless support directs you to delete it.

Validity starts when the eSIM connects to a supported network in Costa Rica. Installation alone does not start validity. If already in Costa Rica, enabling the line and connecting can start the plan.

When ready, enable AloOui, select it for mobile data and follow your order's data-roaming instructions.

APN and troubleshooting

1. Check that AloOui is enabled, selected for mobile data and configured according to your order's data-roaming instructions.
2. If an APN is required, use the APN and credentials supplied with your purchased plan. Save/select it; some devices configure this automatically.
3. Toggle airplane mode or restart your phone.
4. Start with automatic network selection; if needed, select the supported partner for your purchased plan and move to a stronger-signal area.
5. Check remaining data and validity. Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting; contact support first.

Costa Rica eSIM FAQs

Which Costa Rica plan do you recommend for heavier data use?

We recommend Unlimited Plus because it has the larger daily high-speed allowance among this product's selectable Unlimited tiers. Match the duration to your stay and check the current price and hotspot terms. Unlimited Essential is the balanced alternative for lighter daily needs.

Is Unlimited Plus the same as Unlimited Premium?

No. Costa Rica offers Fixed Data, Unlimited Lite, Unlimited Essential and Unlimited Plus. There is no selectable Unlimited Premium plan on this product. Plus uses a daily allowance, not a Premium whole-plan pool.

How should I compare fixed data with daily Unlimited?

Fixed data gives you one total allowance across its validity. Unlimited Lite, Essential and Plus provide daily high-speed allowances followed by reduced-speed data. Compare your expected usage, trip length and selected price rather than choosing by the word “Unlimited” alone.

Which plan suits a week or two weeks in Costa Rica?

For heavier use, compare Unlimited Plus for 7 or 15 days respectively. For balanced use, compare Essential at the same duration. For lighter use between Wi-Fi connections, choose a fixed plan with enough total data and validity to cover your whole stay.

Which networks does it use?

ICE and Liberty. Available technology and speeds depend on your purchased plan, device, location and local network conditions.

Does it include Panama or Nicaragua?

No. This product covers Costa Rica only; compare CENAM for a separate regional option.

How much fixed data can I choose?

1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 50GB or 100GB, with validity depending on allowance.

How long do Unlimited plans last?

Lite, Essential and Plus offer 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days.

When does validity start?

When the eSIM connects to a supported network in Costa Rica, not simply on installation. Receiving the QR code by email is delivery, not the start of your plan.

Can I share data with a laptop?

Yes, where hotspot is supported by your device and network. Shared usage counts toward the same allowance. Unlimited Plus is our starting recommendation for heavier use, but neither hotspot support nor the plan choice guarantees video-call quality.

Will it work throughout a rainforest trip?

Continuous reception in remote forests, on boat routes or at every lodge is not guaranteed. Save essential details offline.
