Fairphone Gen. 6 & 6+ Travel eSIM: Which Line Uses 5G?
AloOui eSIM for 欧洲+ — from $4.35 · Buy Now →
Can both Fairphone Gen. 6 SIMs use 5G at the same time?
No. Fairphone documents one nano-SIM and one eSIM for Gen. 6 and Gen. 6+, with only one SIM active on 5G at a time. Choose the intended travel-data line separately from your calling and texting preferences; dual standby does not mean two simultaneous 5G connections.
Researched 28 October 2026 · AloOui Research. Confirm the actual device, software, carrier unlocking and purchased network service before relying on a travel arrangement.
Start with the manufacturer's network configuration
Fairphone's global network coverage guidance lists Gen. 6/Gen. 6+ as Dual-SIM, Dual-Standby, with one 5G-enabled eSIM and one 5G-enabled nano-SIM. The footnote limits 5G activity to one SIM at a time. The Gen. 6+ US product specifications repeat that limit.
“5G-enabled” describes a supported capability, not guaranteed access to every provider's 5G service or two active 5G data links. Neither the footnote nor two installed services establishes combined bandwidth or extra allowance.
The Gen. 6 getting-started manual describes physical nano-SIM plus eSIM use. Do not infer a two-active-eSIM arrangement or a stored-profile count from that statement.
Set three preferences, not one all-purpose travel switch
Fairphone's SIM setup guidance separates default calls, texts and mobile data. For calls it describes selecting a default or Ask every time; texts and mobile data have their own defaults. Its documented preference path is Settings, SIMs, Your primary SIMs, with actual wording dependent on software.
- Confirm which installed service is the home number and which is the purchased travel line.
- Select the travel service for mobile data when ready to use it in included coverage.
- Choose the intended ordinary calling line, or the documented Ask every time option if appropriate.
- Review the texting default separately.
- Check home roaming and automatic data switching against the home carrier's charges.
A data-only plan should not be mistaken for an ordinary calling or texting service. Keeping a home number available does not make overseas calls or messages free. If a home or work service is essential, confirm the supported arrangement with its provider before departure.
What if the travel line shows 4G rather than 5G?
First confirm that the intended line supplies mobile data and that the task you need works. Then check the exact purchase's supported network access, your location and the phone's supported settings. Do not assume the home line can remain on 5G while a second line also uses 5G.
The one-5G-line limit is one device fact, not a diagnosis of every 4G connection. A purchased service, available coverage, congestion or device configuration can also matter. Follow the order and manufacturer instructions rather than forcing unsupported network settings.
For the broader buying distinction between network labels, allowance and actual performance, see the 4G/5G buying guide. A larger plan adds allowance, not signal or a guarantee of a faster connection.
Install without confusing the profile with the plan
Confirm exact-device eSIM support and carrier unlocking first. Fairphone's eSIM setup guidance and the purchased order define the supported installation route. Use reliable Wi-Fi and keep QR or manual activation credentials private.
AloOui travel validity starts on connection to a supported network in an included destination, not purchase or installation alone. A covered home or transit stop can start the clock. Switching the line off does not pause it; crossing borders does not reset validity or refill data.
When ready, apply the purchased roaming and APN settings to the travel line, then test a small webpage. Review home-line settings independently. Save arrival maps, addresses and tickets offline.
Choose the service your selected data line needs
For an included European route, Europe Extra 1GB total / 7 days costs $3.66 USD, a light-use starting point alongside Wi-Fi. A larger 5GB total / 30-day pool costs $11.13 USD. These fixed pools are total, not daily, and end at exhaustion or expiry without reduced-speed continuation.
For balanced daily use, compare Essential / 7 days, with 1GB high-speed daily then up to 1.25 Mbps. For clearly heavier use, compare Plus / 7 days, with 2GB high-speed daily then up to 2 Mbps. Review current selected prices. Plus is not Premium, and a tier name does not establish different 5G access.
Europe Extra is data-only across 38 listed destinations, including the UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Serbia and Moldova. Check every stop and island. Use the Europe range comparison for coverage differences or explore another destination.

Which Europe eSIM includes a phone number?
AloOui UK & EU Prepaid 20GB/30 Days costs $59.60 USD and includes a real UK mobile number, 20GB total data, 50 call minutes and 50 SMS across 30 listed destinations, including the UK, Switzerland and Turkey. Included calls and texts are from listed destinations to numbers in those destinations; other destinations and premium-rate services are excluded.
One eSIM. 30 European destinations. One UK number for calls and SMS. Use maps, call accommodation and arrange pickups on a compatible, unlocked Fairphone.
This is separate from data-only Europe Extra. Its 20GB is shared across 30 days, not per day or country, with no automatic renewal. Norway, Iceland, Serbia and Albania are not included. Check the complete list before buying. A number-enabled package does not remove the phone's one-5G-line limit.

The number's six-month validity is separate from the 30-day package. Verification-message acceptance and delivery are not guaranteed. For separate UK-only options, see the UK-number guide.
Keep the profile while investigating a connection issue
Check the selected data line, purchased coverage, allowance, expiry and order-specific settings before treating a network icon as a failure. If an app alone fails while webpages work, check that app separately.
Keep an installed profile while troubleshooting. Ask AloOui before deleting, rescanning or changing devices; transfer and QR reuse are not universally supported. Hotspot uses the same allowance where the purchased service, device and network permit sharing. Important calls and uploads need an available backup connection, not an assumption of continuous 5G.

Fairphone travel-data FAQs
What SIM configuration does Fairphone document?
Gen. 6 and Gen. 6+ have one nano-SIM and one eSIM with dual-SIM, dual-standby support.
Can both SIMs be active on 5G together?
No. Fairphone's network guidance limits 5G activity to one SIM at a time.
Are calls, texts and data selected together?
Fairphone documents separate defaults for calls, texts and mobile data. Check each for the intended service.
Does this establish two simultaneously active eSIMs?
No. The cited configuration specifies nano-SIM plus eSIM, not two active eSIMs.
Does 4G automatically mean my eSIM is broken?
No. Check whether tasks work, the selected line, purchased network access and local conditions before troubleshooting further.
Does choosing Plus unlock 5G?
A larger allowance or different tier name does not establish different network access. Check the selected purchase.
Does installation alone start AloOui validity?
No. A supported network connection in an included destination starts the travel package, including a covered home or transit stop.
Should I delete the profile to change the network icon?
No. Follow supported settings and ask support about the exact order before deleting or rescanning.
